The StringBean mobile app is designed to keep working even when you lose internet connectivity. This article explains exactly what works offline, what needs internet, how syncing works, and what to do if something gets stuck.

What works offline

What you can do

What needs internet

  • Signing in
  • Issuing workflows from Team or StringBean libraries (favorites still work offline)
  • Loading data you haven't seen before
  • Real-time collaboration on notes

How syncing works

When you reconnect, the app automatically syncs in the background in this order:

  1. Assignments created offline
  2. Task answers and files (photos, videos, recordings)
  3. Daily notes
  4. Note attachments
  5. Status changes (completed, on hold, etc.)
  6. Emails and tickets you queued
  7. Exception flags

Tip: Check what's still waiting to sync at Menu → Account Settings → Sync Status. Tap "Sync All Now" to force an immediate sync.

Good to know: The app won't mark an assignment as "completed" on the server until all the task data (photos, answers, etc.) has been uploaded first. This ensures nothing is lost.

Sync icons

On the Storage screen and lists, you'll see one of two icons next to each item:

  • Green checkmark — Synced to the server. Safe.
  • Orange clock — Waiting to be uploaded. Do not delete.

If something gets stuck

Occasionally an upload might get stuck — for example, if the connection dropped mid-upload. The app detects items that have been stuck for more than 5 minutes and automatically resets them so they can try again.

If items seem permanently stuck, try:

  1. Go to Sync Status and tap "Sync All Now".
  2. Make sure you have a stable connection.
  3. Pull down to refresh on the Sync screen.
