StringBean Mobile vs. Web

This article explains the differences between the StringBean mobile app and the web application.

StringBean is a cloud-based workflow inspection and service management platform that you can use on a mobile device via an app or on desktop through a web browser. Data is stored securely in the cloud — log in on any supported platform to access your account and the same data.

For details on supported devices and browsers, see System Requirements.

Mobile Application

The StringBean mobile application is designed for desk-less workers who complete Tasks (Service Requests), log notes, and capture data while on-site. Native apps are available for iOS and Android.

For how to install or update, see Install or Update the StringBean Mobile App.

The mobile app has features optimized for on-site work, including:

  • QR, Barcode, and NFC Scanning
  • Photo, Video, Audio, and Location Capture
  • Vendor Check-In and Check-Out
StringBean might not display correctly in Mobile Web Browsers. We recommend using the Mobile App on Phones and Tablets
QR, Barcode, and NFC Scanning

Use your device's camera or NFC reader to scan codes posted on locations, equipment, or printed Tasks. Scanning opens the linked record directly, saving you the step of searching for it.

Photo, Video, Audio, and Location Capture

When you fill out a StringBean, you can capture photos, short videos, audio clips, and GPS location data directly using your device's camera, microphone, and location services. This is faster and more accurate than uploading from a separate device.

Vendor Check-In and Check-Out

Vendors can self-register their departure and arrival at a site using a Mobile-optimized check-in flow, accessed by scanning a QR code posted at the site

Web Application

The StringBean web application gives you access to features that are better suited to larger screens and structured admin work. Admins and managers typically spend most of their time here.

The web app includes several features not available on mobile:

Workflow Builder

Create, edit, and publish StringBean templates in a visual editor designed for complex logic. The Workflow Builder supports decision logic, calculations, lookups, API beans, nested templates, loop beans, and more — letting you build sophisticated custom workflows without writing code.

For a full walkthrough, see the Workflow Builder guide

Reports

Generate detailed reports in PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, or HTML. Reports can be configured to capture exactly the data you need, formatted for sharing with internal teams, clients, or auditors.

Learn how to generate and send reports in the Reports guide

Dashboards

Access the full set of dashboards — including the Activity Map, User KPI, Site Safety, Project, and other specialized views — for a real-time picture of what's happening across your organization.

Library Management

Browse, clone, and issue StringBean templates from a central library. A folder-based hierarchy keeps your template library organized and easy to navigate, even at scale.

For tips on creating and structuring your library, see the Library Management guide

Settings

Manage your organization from a single place. The Settings area covers:

  • Account settings
  • Organization settings
  • Roles & Permissions — control who can do what across your account.
  • Managing Users — add, remove, and update users from the User Admin page.
  • Integrations — including Slack

Full details are available in the Settings guide
